Reporting to the Senior Vice President Human Resources NA, this is a highly visible and newly created role that will partner with all employee levels, including executive leadership. In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of an effective strategy to build a vibrant culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion for all members of the organization. The DEI Director will shape a creative, dynamic, and forward-thinking DEI strategy, and champion the importance and value of a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment.

  • Lead Sonepar USA’s ambition to be aggressive and transparent in improving representation, development, and promotion of diverse talent. Partner with both corporate and field HR teams to support talent acquisition, management, and development for diverse associates.
  • Establish and grow relationships with key stakeholders to fulfill the vision of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion plan. Act as HR business partner to the IDEA Council (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Action Council), develop monthly agendas, identify key decisions, facilitate discussion, and via a robust communications plan connect the work of the Council to all leaders and associates within Sonepar USA.
  • Advise on and support diversity recruiting efforts, including employer branding, and act as a visible face of Sonepar USA externally. Develop metrics for DE&I hiring, retention and employee sentiment that ladder up to key metrics and goals and foster a culture of inclusion.
  • In partnership with field and corporate HR business partners and leaders, as well as the legal function, serve as sounding board for associates and HR in order to navigate sensitive and confidential DE&I issues with care, empathy and insightfulness.
  • Act as HR business partner to SUSA’s Employee Resource groups, support the further creation of ERGs, advise each ERG’s officer or steering committee leadership regarding organization development. Develop and lead an annual ERG summit, where leaders of all ERGs can come together to share practices and challenges. Act as a feedback loop to key stakeholders, post this summit.


  • Experience advising and counseling senior leaders on DE&I issues.
  • Experience in building and maintaining critical collaborations and partnerships across functions and disciplines.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills toward building credibility and unity around difficult and complex issues.
  • Strong leadership, business partnering, and organizational development skills to promote, execute, and assess the impact of DE+I strategic priorities and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, creating and driving diversity, equity and inclusion programs, particularly with dispersed and varied employee groups.
  • Must balance strategic thinking with the hands-on ability to get projects done.
  • Strong ability to lead and manage projects with a sense of urgency. Experience in a matrixed environment is highly preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communicating skills, and skilled at presenting new ideas in a persuasive manner.
  • Ability to establish and address priorities in a constantly moving environment. Strong self-starter tendencies with the ability to be flexible and decisive and adaptive to changing situations. The successful candidate will be able to make decisions, communicate clearly and promote confidence and trust – even in the midst of multiple distractions and time demands.
  • Strong grasp and understanding of the DE&I landscape, language and current events impacting and shaping DE&I.
  • 10+ years of professional experience, which includes at least 5 years in a lead partner role implementing diversity and inclusion programs in complex organizations.
