The Opportunity

Vallen’s HR Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic human resource consultant to mid-level management within an assigned client group(s).  They typically have day-to-day human resource oversight for associate headcount of 300-400 employees and are accountable for embedding talent, performance management, associate retention, and engagement strategies within their designated client groups.  They formulate partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and associates that reflects the business objectives of the organization.  HRBPs are responsible for maintaining an effective level of business literacy regarding Vallen’s goals, financial position, culture and competition.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic human resources consultation and tactical day-to-day support to clients through demonstrated knowledge of various human resources functions, including staffing, compensation, benefits, training and associate relations.
  • Contribute to business strategy by coaching leaders to identify, prioritize, and build human capital talent and succession plans; continually identify new opportunities for HR to add value to the business.
  • Serve as a liaison between the business, HR, and shared services; promote a culture of the company’s desired values.
  • Facilitate and implement initiatives aligned with Vallen’s strategic and financial goals; review key business performance targets and their related talent implications; engage HR specialists as needed.
  • Forecast and address talent requirements; perform and/or facilitate talent reviews and assessments; assist leaders in identifying and addressing associate development opportunities to obtain desired performance objectives.
  • Anticipate associate needs, listen for concerns and proactively develop action plans with management to address.
  • Facilitate the hiring process and new hire orientations; develop and/or assist leadership with onboarding plans.
  • Assess, facilitate, and manage employee relations issues and identify proactive measures to reduce future occurrences; perform investigations; make recommendations for and/or carry out terminations as necessary.
  • Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws; track trends and implement best business practices.
  • Partner with leadership to effectively facilitate reorganizations; act as an associate advocate and change agent.
  • Participate in activities of mergers, acquisitions, and/or divestitures to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Review and approve associate data change requests; provide consultation to management on fiscally responsible decisions.
  • Train managers on HR policies, associate handbook, and HR-related tools and systems.
  • Perform regular HR metric reviews; collect and analyze human capital data to make recommendations for ongoing improvements and goal attainment.
  • Implement HR policies and develop related communications and procedures for implementation.
  • Manage projects as assigned or as determined in the HR operational plan.

Qualifications & Benefits

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Human Resources, Business, Finance, etc.) coupled with 3+ years of experience in the field of Human Resources. Relevant experience should include:
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including employee relations, performance management, compensation, organizational development, and diversity.
  • Knowledge of federal and respective state employment laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex associate relations issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold confidentiality and work with sensitive job and pay-related data.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated strong planning, organizational and execution skills.
