Job Description

Viking Electric is hiring a Lighting Solutions Specialist for the project team in Minneapolis, MN.

As a lighting Solutions Specialist you will use your skills and experience in lighting design and lighting controls to increase sales and profitability in Viking's lighting business.  You will act as a business partner with management and sales teams to develop a go-to market plan for lighting energy solutions, retrofit solutions and energy savings programs.

Other job responsibilities include: 

  • Responsible for providing lighting layouts and calculations, proposing energy-saving solutions for Viking’s customers, while incorporating energy rebates and proposing energy-saving solutions where applicable. Deliver value-add services by evaluating drawings and recommending solutions based on design specs and utilization of both prescriptive and instant rebate programs.
  • Understand customer needs, in coordination with management and account managers, regarding Viking’s retrofit/energy solutions strategy and other pertinent sales and customer specific information. Create and provide energy-saving products, retrofit product offerings, and latest technologies to help customers profitably grow their business. Provide regular technical and project support.

  • Conduct and engage in energy audits in conformance with recognized industry standards. Discern and interpret the various utilities’ rebate programs, energy programs, energy rates and utility specific energy contacts.

  • Foster, create and maintain excellent working relationships with utility providers. Provide technical assistance and other product and system support to the engineering community by working independently or in conjunction with manufacturers and their representatives.

  • Cultivate and perpetuate accurate and up-to-date information in the job quotes system in collaboration with respective project team members.

  • Partner with marketing and sales teams to identify potential customers for energy solutions. Develop necessary tools and collateral, in coordination with vendor partners, product teams, and Viking’s Marketing Team to identify, support, and promote energy initiatives and solutions.

  • Provide technical information and consult with sales team on proper application of products when applicable. Provide sales teams with up to date information on latest lighting technology trends and products as it relates to energy solutions.

Required Skills
  • Strong math aptitude and basic understanding of financial information
  • Strong organizational skills. Able to manage time effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal & written communication

  • Effective vendor management skills
  • Must be able to effectively sell, negotiate and problem-solve, including strong decision-making skills

Required Experience
  • 5-7 years in the Electrical industry.
  • Should have familiarity with electrical codes and a working knowledge of the lighting segment of the business.
  • Working knowledge of Lighting Design Software
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Comfortable using the internet as a search and business tool
