Summary:

The Network Engineer II position will be directly involved in the network infrastructure in monitoring, maintenance, deploying, and break/fix capacities in the US.  This position is required to troubleshoot and support an Enterprise-class Cisco wireless network, as well as assist with support of a large Cisco router/switch network connected via MPLS and DMVPN backup. This position will also require knowledge of auxiliary network support functions including but not limited to dhcp, dns, and network management tools. The successful candidate will also be required to provide problem resolution to end users. The position requires inclusion in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule. Travel will be required throughout the U.S.in support of new and revised remote site implementations (10-15%).

Responsibilities: 

  • Data network design and engineering; Installation, configuration, troubleshooting to root cause, and tuning of enterprise data networking equipment
  • Monitor/work tickets assigned to the networking queue
  • Enforce policy, strategic and operational network guidelines and procedures
  • Analyzing systems and suggesting work around and fixes for problems
  • Ownership of new projects / products including input to initial proposal, scoping, system design, integration, customer and project liaison
  • Providing technical assistance to other operations staff and Business Development
  • Ability to plan, document, and manage multiple IT projects and deadlines effectively with a minimum of supervision
  • Experience with Network performance analysis troubleshooting & resolution of routing problems using common network tools, protocol analyzers, etc.
  • Assist in establishing and operating network test facilities; analyze and monitor network activity to ensure optimal network operation; monitor network traffic, usage, and performance; run diagnostics to forecast performance thresholds. Perform analysis of network efficiency (e.g., channel, trunks, etc.) and traffic routing and troubleshoot system failures referring to vendor or technicians as appropriate; test and evaluate network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements

Requirements:

  • Hands-on familiarity with Cisco Internetworking Equipment and Software
  • Experience supporting Cisco designs and solutions for large Enterprise Networks
  • Familiarity with a wide range of WAN/LAN Network Topologies (Ethernet, WAN, SONET and Wireless)
  • Level II knowledge of IP networking concepts (NAT, TCP/IP, Multicast, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge in troubleshooting Routing Protocols (EIGRP/BGP)
  • Basic knowledge in troubleshooting Layer 2 switching technologies (STP, VLANs, VTP, etherchannel, Trunking.)
  • Working knowledge of IT security concepts
  • Basic familiarity Cisco Firewalls, DMVPN, VPN Tunnels and customer integration concepts
  • Working knowledge of TELCO technologies (T-1, T-3, SONET, MPLS, Frame-relay, ISDN, Pri/Bri)
  • Experience with using network design documents and presentations (PowerPoint and Visio)
  • Working knowledge of Windows/UNIX Operating Systems
  • Excellent written and oral English communication and presentation skills
  • Travel will be required throughout the U.S.in support of new and revised remote site implementations (10-15%)
  • The ideal candidate will also come from a fast growth paced business with high I.T. expansion
  • Large retail distribution or similar business background is a plus
