The Opportunity

Vallen’s VP of Product Strategy is a staff management position responsible for all functions associated with product strategy, digital strategy, and brand marketing to support the company’s profit and growth goals and objectives.  Demonstrating knowledge of industry, consumer and product trends, they assess the company’s competitive landscape and contribute to penetration strategies for target markets and preferred suppliers. They design and lead the execution of strategies, programs, and initiatives that promote sales via digital channels.  They oversee the identification of preferred suppliers, rebate synergies, product sourcing best practices and tactics complimentary to industry trends.  They develop, modify, and provide direction for the implementation of product marketing plans and promotional activities that influence the direction of the field sales force and the company’s e-business platform activities. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manages associates and other leaders who contribute to the development and implementation of product strategies, digital strategies, and brand marketing for the organization’s products and/or services.  Staff management responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, selecting, hiring, coaching, counseling, and disciplining associates while enforcing company policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Participates in the corporate budget process; responsible for forecasting and managing departmental and functional expenditures; prepares fiscally responsible budget recommendations and continuously looks for cost reduction opportunities.
  • Collects and analyzes industry, market, consumer, and/or product information to evaluate the company’s strengths as well as opportunities and develop strategic product and/or digital business plans to achieve financial and growth goals.
  • Directs and oversees the organization’s digital marketing initiatives to optimize digital marketing effectiveness and enhance the Vallen user experience.
  • Identifies opportunities for differentiating the organization's digital portfolio including capabilities and solutions; acts as a change agent in leading the organizational changes that are required to create and maintain the necessary digital portfolio; monitors the organization's digital options across its target markets to ensure consistency and alignment with the organization's digital strategy.
  • Prepares recommendations for and lead the implementation initiatives to leverage organizational resources in order to capitalize on growth opportunities and track their respective performance.
  • Provides direction for identifying, establishing and managing relationships with top suppliers and/or stakeholders that is complimentary to executing long-term sourcing and cost-control strategies.
  • Provides direction for the evaluation of vendor performance.
  • Guides the analysis and interpretation of web analytics and metrics used for web/market site enhancements to leverage optimization of all e-business programs.
  • Collaborates with Operational leadership to develop and execute policies, procedures, and best practices related to the procurement of goods and services utilized throughout the Vallen supply chain.
  • Collaborates with Sales leadership to develop and execute programs and best practices related to the advertisement, marketing and branding of company products and services.
  • Manages the execution of request for information, proposals, quotes, bid analysis, and contract development for key/preferred suppliers of the company; participates in the decision to award business.
  • Oversees and provides direction to company-sponsored events.    
  • Oversees and/or participates in the supplier/vendor negotiation process to ensure the most lucrative rebate, incentive, and co-op terms and conditions for the enterprise.
  • Leads collaboration initiatives with Sales and Operation leadership teams to identify and research cost-effective commodity resource opportunities.
  • Ensures resolution to supplier issue management and escalation processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Benefits

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study and at least 15 years applicable experience. 
  • Extensive understanding of sourcing and procurement operations, procedures, and best practices with demonstration of strong supplier negotiation and business planning skills to maximize supplier sales.
  • Experience with developing supplier-focused programs (e.g., incentives, co-ops, rebates, etc.)
  • Experience with developing successful e-business and digital strategies and programs.
  • Industrial distribution industry experience preferred.
  • Strong presentation skills with professional presence to deliver materials to executive audience (internally and/or externally).
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and change management skills.
